Orange County Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Round-up
It’s that fateful time of year that couples enjoy, men in a relationship forget and women in a relationship count the days till and all other singles drink to. For those who are unlucky enough to be in a relationship or have a date, I thought it would be helpful to give you some romantic suggestions as to where to spend a Valentine’s Day to remember. In case you have not made a reservation, here are 3 spots you might get lucky at.
Charlie Palmer (@ Bloomingdales)
This is one of the best restaurants in Southern California and the ambiance inside is only outdone by the food they serve. Charlie Palmer serves gourmet American food and has a sleek romantic feel when you are sitting in their dining room.
Pros
- Great food
- Great ambiance
- Gigantic wine selection
Cons
- Located at South Coast Plaza
- It is on the expensive side where your meal will range from $150-$1000 depending on the wine
3333 Bristol Street @ Bloomingdales
Costa Mesa, CA 92626-1873
(714) 352-2525
Zimzala (@ the Shorebreak Hotel)
I know it is place we love to go out to party, but this is a fantastic restaurant with top notch food serving coastal Mediterranean. It also has the Ares Seal of Approval to bring a date to dinner. Great food, upscale environment but because it will be a busy night, make sure you specifically request a table off in a corner or if it looks like a nice night, on the patio where you can see the stars, hear the ocean and have a romantic night out (but bring a jacket if it is cold).
Pros
- Fantastic food
- Ares Seal of Approval
- Great service and they will do everything they can to accommodate and make you happy
- Make it a romantic getaway and stay in the Shorebreak Hotel where it is located. They have fantastic specials for an ocean view room with Champagne delivered and it is only a few steps and an elevator ride away from Zimzala
- Honestly I am thinking this is my plan on Valentine’s Day
Cons
- It is not the cheapest, but very reasonable for Valentine’s Day, dinner for two with a bottle of wine should fall around $100-200
500 Pacific Coast Highway
2nd floor of the Shorebreak Hotel
Huntington Beach, CA
(714) 960-5050
Andrea (@ Pelican Hill Resort)
Northern Italian cuisine that differs greatly from the classic Italian many of us have come to know. Smaller plates and dishes meant to share and enjoy with your company. If you want to spoil your date rotten, this is the place to go as it is the perfect place for a really special occasion.
Pros
- Intimate seating with romantic ambiance
- Fantastic service at a venue all women will love
- Great view from the patio
- Pelican Hill Resort will make you feel like you just stepped into a luxurious resort in Monaco or Coastal Spain
Cons
- $$$$$ most expensive restaurant on the list by far
- it is a long dinner, you and your date will be sitting, sipping and chatting for at least 2 hours
- get a reservation NOW! or else you most likely will not get a table
22701 Pelican Hill Rd S
Newport Coast, CA 92657-2008

I love Dillons and Me.
Ladies, this place is a goldmine! When it first opened up, nothing but guys. And not just guys but NORMAL guys. Guys with jobs and cars and no felony records! Ahhhh, nice vacation from Burbank…..
In it’s prime location on Hollywood and Vine, you’d think it would be too “Hollywood”. But No. Valet is cheap ($5)! The staff is great, I especially love Winston, the security guard and the hot bar tenders. These girls are hot, provide good service and keep the dudes flowing in.
My girls and I have met so many guys there already. I’ve personally met two hot bar tenders and now I’m pregnant and don’t know which one to make the Dad. *sigh* I’ve also met some cool chicks that I still keep in contact with. Being the awesome, hot, intelligent, funny, outgoing, caring and beautiful person that I am. = D
I will be back. Again, and again…..to find my next baby Daddy. That’s how I roll. Mmm.

Zimzala
A bar, a restaurant, and a lounge. What else is there?
![]()
Review and Overview:
Cuisine: Mediterranean, American, and Italian
- Drinks ($-$$$$)
Just depends on what you get really. You can get a beer or something that better suits your tastes. It’s up to you. There is also Happy Hour from 3pm to 7pm.
- Food ($$-$$$)
The food is AMAZING. The head chef is a magician in the kitchen and puts a unique spin on your favorite meals of the day. Try the burger, you will be addicted to it. There are so many different options offered here so check the menu.
- Dancing
It is a lounge, so people have been known to dance here when the DJ is playing tunes. I have watched Ares cut a rug with numerous women who anticipated having a nice, quiet dinner. Generally though the atmosphere is more laid back.
- Events
Zimzala is not a stranger to throwing some sweet events. We actually threw a Halloween Party here, which was so awesome…we have trouble remembering parts of it. Check out their event listings for further info.
- Staff
Besides the fact that the servers are beautiful (there seems to be a pattern growing here), everyone is incredibly attentive and friendly. One of the most memorable times here will be simply chatting with the staff. Everyone working here is incredibly down to earth.
- Parking
Parking is quite easy because you have three options. You can either park on the street, park in the garage which is on the other side of the building (the elevator takes patrons to the hotel lobby), or park with valet.
- Cover/Line/Dress Code
There is no cover and there has never been a line. The dress code (in my opinion) depends on the time of day. Though it appears casual since it is in Huntington Beach, we find that the patrons tend to be casual during the day and dressy casual at night. I think this is a good rule of thumb for anyone who comes here.
- Additional Perks
Caters to pets. Who knew?
- Recommendation
Go for the food, stay for the atmosphere

Information: This spot is located within the shore break hotel off of the PCH and 5th street. It is on the second floor past the front desk. It is a
restaurant by day and a lounge by night equipped the best bar selection I have seem in a while! Get the Fernet Branca.
Our History: Ares started coming here the minute it opened and I was introduced to the place a month later during limo night (story for another day perhaps). Ares was already friends with practically all of the staff. He liked it because the staff was amiable and they had his favorite beer. After being there one night, I met the head director, head chef, and several lovely servers. At any rate I felt the positive vibes from this place.
Eventually Chef came with us to chill here as well. Typically, we have started and ended our night here many times. In fact when Chef came to Huntington Beach to chill, we went to Zimzala 5 times in a 48 hour period. It was fantastic! Even better, Zimzala has been the starting point of many hungover mornings. Its breakfast/brunch along with sparkling water can rejuvenate and sate the most ravenous or appetites. Besides the delicious food we have gotten to know the staff very well. Though there are FAR too many stories about this place, our History is simple. This place is amazing and we have been going there ever since.
Why It’s Hot: I have never been to an establishment where management greets you every single time you enter and thanks you whenever you leave. That was Sean. Though he left Zimzala to pursue other lucrative career options, he has left a lasting impression with us. Aside form Sean, the former executive chef, Vincent, was a magician in the kitchen. We have enjoyed many a breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner at Zimzala (as well as a few night caps and late night snacks) concocted by this man. The servers and other staff are also my favorite people in the world! We usually only go for lunch when Jessica is on her shift. We are constantly spreading the name of Zimzala as much as physically possible.
What makes Zimzala truly stand out is its atmosphere. Being in the middle of Huntington Beach, one would assume Zimzala’s patrons consisted of surfers, skaters, fighters, and the rest of the typical bro personas you find inhabiting Huntington Beach. That is not the case at all. Zimzala is genuinely more upscale and seems refreshingly out of place. It has the calm nature of Huntington Beach mixed with the class of Newport Beach. Zimzala also has an outdoor dining section with a great view of the beach and Huntington Pier. Definitely a place to visit if you’re in the area for a drink, food, and a good time!

Dillon’s Irish Pub
The end of the rainbow…

Also read the review by Beworaeer
Review and Overview:
- Drinks ($-$$)
The best part about Dillon’s Irish Pub is that the 16 oz. pints are only $3 on every beer. Even better the 22 oz. pints are $5 for every beer! This is an insane deal in the heart of Hollywood. If you are not into beer, no worries, there is a full bar with plenty of hard alcohol.
- Food ($-$$)
The food at Dillon’s is amazing and inexpensive. One of the best things to order on the menu is the Dillon’s Burger which comes with a side of fries, sweet potato fries, a cup of soup, side salad, or fruit. Check out the menu.
- Games
There is a pool table…that’s about it. Sports also play on the flat screens behind the main bar.
- Events
Dillon’s throws events from time to time. In fact you can talk to the event coordinator if you ever want to throw an event here.
- Staff
This can only be said so many times, the staff is super chill. The bartenders and servers are also incredibly hot.
- Parking
Parking works one of three ways. You can find street parking for free, park in the lot behind Dillon’s for $8, or valet your car for $5. We recommend the valet. The valet guys are also incredibly chill
- Cover/Line/Dress Code
There is no cover of course, so that is a plus. Also I have never seen a line at any time of the night and the bar can get pretty crowded. The dress code is also casual.
- Recommendation
This is a great place for both a guys night out or a girls night out. Guys can chill here and grab food and a beer. It is also a great place to get away from any girl problems you may have. On the flip side, ladies will get a lot of attention at this bar, simply because there are SO many guys. Therefore the more girls you bring, the more attention your group will receive.

Information:
This spot has one of the best locations ever in Hollywood. Located off of Hollywood and Vine, Dillon’s is an Irish Pub and a great place to hang with friends for guys and girls alike. It is right next to the Frolic Room.
Our History:
The first time we came to Dillon’s was with our friend, George, from Happy Ending for a guys night out. Simply put, it was incredibly entertaining. Even better George informed us that one of our favorite bouncers at Happy Ending was now head of security at Dillon’s.
The four of us get to Dillon’s and proceed to drink to our heart’s content. Our friend also introduces us to his Budweiser representatives who were amiable and bought us several rounds. The cool thing we discovered was that EVERY pint was $3 and if we wanted a larger glass (22 oz) it was only $5!
Better yet, every server/bartender was EXTREMELY attractive. As a result Ra and I wound up hitting on the hostesses on our first night :p After that night, we came to the realization that this was a great spot to hang out.
Why It’s Hot: Dillon’s has a LOT going for it. Needless to say, we came back to Dillon’s on multiple occasions and have learned a few things about the bar. First, the food is DELICIOUS. The average entree runs for about $10 and there is plenty of food with each order.
Second, all of the staff are extremely nice. When you come to Dillon’s you will not get the traditional Hollywood vibe from anyone except possibly the patrons. Third it is a spacious bar, especially since it has a second floor with a pool table. There is also a second bar located in the back.
What we noticed about Dillon’s is that it is also a great place for guys and girls alike. Since Dillon’s employs many attractive women, a lot of guys go there and drop cash like no one’s business. As a result you have a lot of male patrons at this bar.
Since there are a lot of men at this bar (and this is not an exaggeration), every girl that comes to Dillon’s is bound to get plenty of male attention. The girl to guy ratio is easily at LEAST 3 to 1 on some nights. Hence any girl that enters Dillon’s is guaranteed to at least have her drinks paid for by half the bar.
Seriously, ladies, there are plenty of guys here, who will easily buy you a drink. All that you need to do is sit next to the bar and do NOTHING. So if ever you want to meet a guy easily, just hit Dillon’s. Plenty of our lady friends now LOVE Dillon’s because of this dynamic.
Guys, on the other hand, this is also a great bar for you and your boys. If you need a boys night out or just want great food with even better beer, you want to hit Dillon’s! Not to mention, I must stress once again, the ladies at the bar are gorgeous! Needless to say, this is one of our favorite bars

Happy Ending Bar & Restaurant
A slice of New York in Los Angeles…

Review and Overview:
- Drinks ($-$$$)
Happy Ending has a full bar with an assortment of specialty drinks. There is Happy Hour from 4pm to 7pm and a Drink Wheel with a variety of drink specials. If the wheel lands on a specific drink, that drink has special pricing for 15 minutes . You can also purchase a fishbowl, which is literally what it sounds like, for $25. As mentioned before there are the party packages for $400 to $600.
- Food ($$)
The menu has a variety of delicious options, so it is definitely worth a look. See for yourself, check out the Menu. I recommend the pizza!
- Games/ Dancing
There are two dance floors in Happy Ending, one upstairs and one downstairs. There is a pool table in the front of the restaurant along with a beer pong. There are two other beer pong tables upstairs. Finally there is a lobster crane game (think a mis between a lobster tank and the crane game). If you catch a lobster, Happy Ending will cook it for you!
- Events
There are several sporting events at Happy Ending. Check out the Events Calendar. There are nights for UFC viewings as well as Karoke.
- Staff
Many of the managers and bartenders are buddies from New York. Practically everyone at Happy Ending is friendly and attentive as long as you’re cordial. The typical pretentious Hollywood attitude does not fly here. Be real with them and they’ll be real with you.
- Parking
There is both street parking around the location as well as valet parking for about $4. There are also several cabs that park in front of the location.
There is no cover charge, but due to the location’s popularity a line has been known to form around 10:30 – 11pm. Though the dress code is not set in stone, try to keep it dressy casual. It’s a New York sports bar catering to a Hollywood crowd. Therefore they do not allow extremely baggy clothing or sports jerseys. Otherwise you should be fine. Fellas, why would you want to look frumpy on a Friday night? Dress it up a bit, the ladies sure will.
- Recommendations
This spot is good for parties and a great place to bring friends. It’s also a great place for both single men and women.

Information:
Happy Ending is located on West Sunset Blvd at Sunset and La Brea. While some of my coworkers have been here before, we seriously started going early 2009. This is a taste of New York in Los Angeles.
Our History:
I first went to Happy Ending on a Tuesday. I went out with my boss and another coworker in the hopes of getting $0.25 wings at Big Wangs in Hollywood. Unfortunately the bar switched wing night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Disappointed and uninterested in Tijuana Tuesdays ($1 Tacos) at Big Wangs, we left and went to the original Barney’s Beanery located elsewhere in Hollywood. We went inside for a few moments and left because the place was relatively empty on a Tuesday night and slightly boring.
One of my coworkers suggested we hit up Happy Ending, since she had not been there in a while. We get to Happy Ending and the place is pretty chill, though there was not much going on at 10pm on a Tuesday night. As we sat at the bar ordering drinks, my boss decided to find a guy for our coworker who had just broken up with her boyfriend. As a result after talking to a couple of guys, my boss ran into one of the manager/owner. We all introduced ourselves and were shown around the bar.
As the night progress more people walked into the bar. We learned that the bar had beer pong tournaments on Thursday nights had a spacious upstairs that housed another bar that opens later in the week. We learned the place was a mix between a bar, a restaurant, and a lounge, which was extremely chill. Long story short, our coworker showed interest in some other guy at the bar, but I liked the bar so much that I returned a number of times afterward. From that point on I’ve met a few girls there, ran into a few celebrities, and had a ridiculous time.
Why It’s Hot:
This place is incredibly fun. In fact it is so chill it gets random heat from Hollywood traditionalists. However if you want to have a rambunctious time, hit Happy Ending. Since my first visit, I have gone back to Happy Ending repeatedly and brought a number of friends and coworkers with me. They liked it so much, we continued returning and every time it seemed we learned something new about the place.
After a while, Happy Ending became a regular part of our week, since we started getting to know other members of the staff. As people birthdays rolled around we reserved couches upstairs for the parties. The group that comes to Happy Ending is a mix of college graduates, young professionals, the normal Hollywood crowd, and much more.
Happy is a restaurant with an incredible menu as well as a bar and a lounge with an assortment of drinks. Our new friend at Happy Ending suggested we get the pizza, which is overpoweringly delicious. The bar really kicks into gear around 10pm and people will party there from Wednesday well into the weekend. Earlier in the week there are Karoke nights, but closer towards the weekend the DJ takes over and plays hit songs, especially the song is about NY.
As mentioned before there is a beer pong tournament on Thursday nights, but you can play beer pong at any time. There are two bars, the main one downstairs and the smaller one upstairs. The downstairs changes from restaurant to a bar with a dance floor, while the upstairs is more like a lounge with a large dance floor.
A few months ago I leanred that Happy Ending has bottle service. However bottle service at Happy Ending is much different that normal club. If you have ever been to a club and bought bottle service, you get a table with a lounge couch, juice mixers, and a bottle of your choice of hard alcohol for $400 and up. What’s the point (Honeslty I don’t know, though we have all done it)? The appeal is that you get a table all to yourself and look like a big shot. If you have a table, you can surely invite others to join you quite easily. Hence guys will use this to pick up on women. Not a bad strategy, but it’s pricey.
Happy Ending however does this in an entirely different way. Instead of bottle service, you can purchase one of six Party Packages that range from $400 to $600. The packages include a bottle of hard alcohol, another bottle of alcohol or a bucket of beer, pitchers of beer, mixers and chasers, a ton of food, and party favors that fit the theme of the package. We have been going to Happy Ending for a while and even spent New Years here.

The Park Bar & Grill
It’s as fun as the name sounds!
Review and Overview:
- Drinks ($)
This is a bar that specializes in beer and a lot of it! The beers range from domestic to imported. They have $1 beers (10 oz.) on Wednesdays as well as $2 pints!
- Food ($)
The food is actually delicious and inexpensive. The menu includes several items you would find in a sports bar such as chicken tenders, pizza, and hot wings. Of course it is all cooked to order.
- Games/Dancing
As mentioned before the bar offers beer pong and flip cup if there is room to play. However do not be surprised if your wish is denied because there are too many people in the bar. When this happens expect the front of the bar to turn into an instant dance floor with tunes provided by No1Betta Entertainment. On top of that there are a few other games in the bar which include pool, darts, and hunting arcade game.
Be sure to realize that this is a sports bar so there will always be a game playing or sports shows on, even when the video DJ is playing his tunes on ever other TV in the bar. On top of everything else, the DJ Jimmy will throw a contest of some kind in which the winner gets a free stein of beer of their choice. Can’t beat that!
- Events
There are several different events running through the week, including open mic night. Check out our Events postings.
- Staff
The Park is staffed by friendly folks. First you will encounter the door guy, he is a nice guy so be cool with him. The bartenders are gorgeous and some of the nicest ladies you will meet. Actually all of the staff are really chill including the bouncer.
- Parking
It’s free. There is a TON of street parking, it’s not hard to find a spot unless it’s super crowded. Even then it’s decent.
- Cover/Line/Dress Code
No cover of course, no line, and dress code is definitely casual.
- Recommendation
Bring friends and lots of them because is a social drinking bar! Also note that if you are the type of person who turns into an asshole when drunk, you will want to avoid this place. Though everyone here is friendly, there is little tolerance for out of control morons. Reminds me of home!

Information:
This little place is located on Burbank Blvd if you are heading West from I-5 N. This is a local sports bar that flaunts a variety of beer. We have been going here since early 2009 and I have several coworkers that used to go there well before that. It is considered a dive bar by some, but having been to a few dive bars in the past, this place does not strike me as a dive at all. First it is too well lit. Secondly, the staff isn’t surly and the bartenders are not aging men. Also in addition to the jukebox, there is Jimmy G from No1Betta Entertainment, the insane video DJ who remixes songs like a mad man.
Our History:
We started coming to The Park on Wednesdays for $1 Beer Night. You heard me…$1 Beer Night and I’m not talking PBR or some crap like that. I’m talking Widmer Hefeweizen, Shock Top, Land Shark, and the like. The first time I went, I met with a coworker and a another buddy of mine. We had heard some ridiculous things about the place on Wednesday night, so we had to check it out.
The place was full of people and it took a little bit for us to grab a table. While we waited, the beers came to us like liquid lightning bolts from the bar and I was rather impressed with the speed of service. For the majority of the night we stuck with Widmer Hef. Though the bar was not particularly large, there was more space than we would have expected. The bar was well light with a blue tint and neon signs hanging on the walls along with sports paraphernalia.
Around 9pm the bar was packed with guys watching the end of the game (can’t remember which one). When 10pm rolled around, they all disappeared. We grabbed a free table and watched as the bar began to slowly refill with couples, locals, and regulars. The vibe was cool and the video DJ, Jimmy, started playing music videos which were broadcast on a number of flat screens located around the bar. We were impressed because the music was a solid mix from the 80′s, 90′s, and today including remixes that covered all three (actually now four) decades.
As we continued to drink we noticed how more women started streaming in around 11pm. Now the place was packed. As we sat there talking amongst ourselves, several different people came and talked to us throughout the night. Long story short, we had a good experience that night. After that night my buddy and I told our group of friends and needless to say we have been going back ever since.
Why It’s Hot:
Unlike most bars, there are so many options here to keep oneself entertained. This is especially true if you’re creative. After our first few visits, we realized the potential of the bar. Back in my fraternity days I learned about a drinking game called 7-11-Doubles, which requires dice (I’ll explain at another time). I wanted to teach the group how to play the game and luckily my buddy Poker had a pair of dice on him. The game requires that the players drink a hefty amount of beer. There is no better time or place for this than The Park on $1 Beer Night.
Long story short, the game caught on fast. By the end of the night, we had consumed a large quantity of beer within our group. For the next several months we went to The Park and played 7-11-doubles as weekly tradition. After a certain point the bartenders and staff started to notice that we would always come to the bar, buy a ton of beer, and place “The Game”.
Even my co workers who would come on those nights were curious about it. We taught all of the newcomers and got them into the game as well. It didn’t take long before some of the ladies in our group became friends with the lovely bartenders. As a result our group was recognized for our frequent visits.
There are far too many stories from The Park (that will be told in time), but at some point cops started dropping by the bar because they were getting complaints about fights. Eventually in order to clear the riff-raff and prevent the cops from shutting the place down, The Park stopped $1 Beer Night. Though this made our group sad and plenty of people quite upset, we learned that they were still serving $2 pints.
It did not take us long to realize, that the $1 beers were practically half of the $2 pints (Do the math). This means that though $1 Beer night was gone, nothing had truly changed. Regardless, this change ACTUALLY cleared the riff-raff and stopped the fights. Our group continued going to The Park and watched the fluctuation of clientele. While some Wednesdays were slow, others were incredibly packed, all the while we continued making friends at the bar.
The best experience I have had at The Park occurred a a couple of months ago when I was told by the staff that they had both beer pong and flip cup available. Now if you have ever played beer pong or flip cup, you will understand how addictive both games are. On top of that, we would play with Heff and Coors Light, not Natty Light and PBR. Of course if the Park was too packed, we would continue playing 7-11-doubles. Even better, as of a few weeks ago, The Park brought back $1 Beer Night!
